A new director was appointed to the board of car fleet operators’ association ACFO last week at the organisation’s annual conference and AGM, with Barclays Bank fleet manager Caroline Sandall elected to the empty position vacated last year with the resignation of Stewart Whyte.
Sandall joined the board at the association’s AGM, which took place at the Mercedes-Benz World site in Weybridge, Surrey, taking it back up to a full complement of six members, including the re-election of John Prior, for the first time since Whyte stepped down last September after 17 years as a director.
The conference heard from speakers covering risk management, maximising fuel efficiency and methods of introducing telematics technology to fleets, as well as being handed the first chance to experience the new Mercedes-Benz A-class.
The German firm’s fleet boss Nick Andrews managed to convince his bosses in Stuttgart to ship a car over specifically for the ACFO event, such is the importance Mercedes is placing on the fleet sector for its new model that doesn’t launch in the UK until January 2013.
Andrews re-stated Mercedes’ ambition to become the number one premium brand in the UK, across sales, customer service and profitability, and the A-class is a key part of that strategy.
