Citroen is offering its C1 city car with a telematics system as standard.
The firm claims it is the only manufacturer offering black box technology as standard on a car, which is this case is the Connexion special edition model.
The pilot scheme is currently aimed at retail customers, specifically young drivers with the intention of reducing insurance costs, but the firm hinted that it may fan out standard issue telematics packages across the range if the results prove positive.
The move follows a report in the 19 February issue of BusinessCar that all new cars will be fitted with a telematics system before the end of the decade, and leaves the door open to usage-based insurance schemes among other potential cost and operational benefits for fleets.
