BMW has unveiled a new concept car it says showcases what its next generation of vehicles will look like.
The Vision Neue Klasse concept, unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2023 International Motor Show in Munich, is said to exemplify a clear design language, with expansive surfaces and lines pared down to essential elements.
Inside, there’s a next-generation version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system with BMW Panoramic Vision, which projects information at driver’s eyeline height across the entire width of the windscreen.
As for the powertrain, BMW says the latest version of its electric drive technology features new round battery cells, allowing 20% higher energy density than previously, with a 30% improvement in vehicle range and charging times, alongside a 25% improvement in overall efficiency.
BMW AG board member responsible for development Frank Weber said: “30% more range, 30% faster charging, 25% more efficiency – the Neue Klasse represents a major technological leap that will take EfficientDynamics to new heights. The same applies to its design – which could not be any more futuristic.
“With the Neue Klasse, we have embarked on the biggest investment in the company’s history. We are not just writing the next chapter of BMW; we’re writing a whole new book. That’s why the Neue Klasse will certainly impact all model generations.”
