The BMW i8 has been named the UK Car of the Year 2015, following in the footsteps of its sister model, the BMW i3 which won the award in 2014.
The Car of the Year awards were launched in 2014 and are judged by 27 of the UK’s most-read motoring journalists – including BusinessCar editor, Paul Barker.
Out of the 27 judges, 14 picked the i8 as their winner, the nearest challenger was the Citroen C4 Cactus and the Renault Twingo in third place.
The Renault Twingo was awarded the Best City Car award, while the Best Supermini award went to the Skoda Fabia and the Best Small Hatch was won by the Citroen C4 Cactus.
BusinessCar’s Car of the Year, the Mercedes C-class scooped the Best Executive Car award, while the Ford Mondeo won the Best Family Car prize.
“The BMW i8 is the culmination of many years of investment, hard work and commitment to create the world’s most progressive sports car,” said Graeme Grieve, BMW UK chief executive. “With our first two BMW i vehicles – the i3 and i8 – being named consecutive UK Car of the Year winners, our technology strategy is being recognised as truly game-changing for the car industry.”
