The latest generation of the Ford Mondeo has jumped straight to the top of the class, surpassing its Vauxhall Insignia arch rival to claim this mainstream upper medium BusinessCar Award.
Launched in the UK at the very beginning of 2015, the new Mondeo gets down to as low as 94g/km with the new 1.5-litre diesel engine, and offers a petrol-electric hybrid version for the first time with 99g/km.
The hybrid is also unique in the Mondeo range because it is a four-door saloon, rather than coming in the remaining engines’ five-door hatchback or estate body styles. Ford also offers an enhanced range of petrol engines, such as the 125hp Ecoboost that gets below 120g/km.
The Mondeo’s impressive dynamics, interior space, well-designed cabin and competitive running costs are all present and correct. The car is also the launch model for Ford’s new upper-class Vignale trim level that will spread across the range, stopping next at the S-max.
Although the sector is shrinking, it’s still a very influential one, and it’s a credit to the new Mondeo that the readers of BusinessCar have voted the model straight in at the top.
