The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association has called on Chancellor George Osborne to install a fairer tax system for company car drivers in his March Budget and slammed the Government’s “glaring inefficiencies”.
BVRLA boss John Lewis said: “Our industry has helped the Government deliver a successful emissions-based company car tax regime. We want to continue this partnership by delivering a fairer tax system for road users and pointing out some of the Department for Transport’s most glaring inefficiencies.”
The BVRLA demanded a technology-neutral company car tax framework providing clarity to road users by cutting out the red tape.
It also called for the “out of date” 3% diesel surcharge to be scrapped.
“It penalises company car users for selecting the diesel vehicles that have the lowest CO2 emissions in their class,” Lewis said.
He also urged the coalition government to adopt Labour’s policy of providing a three-year advanced view of company car tax bands by announcing the figures for the 2013/14 fiscal year.
