Citroen has aborted plans to introduce a diesel hybrid version of its C4 hatch.
Last February Citroen produced a working concept of the Hybride technology, but plans for mass production were cancelled shortly after.
A Citroen insider blamed the high cost of the technology for blunting its business case, especially since it conflicted with the cheaper range of small diesels that make more economical sense.
The insider went on to suggest that a large executive saloon such as a C6 Hybride will be the first viable hybrid the French manufacturer will produce, since it is easier to swallow the high cost of the technology in a luxury car.
