The first of two planned EV community charging hubs in Milton Keynes is now operational.
The hub at Saxon Gate is part of the Milton Keynes Go Ultra Low City Scheme (GULCS), created using funding from the UK Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).
It is designed cater for EV owners and business users who do not have access to off-street parking, and features three 7kW charge posts, aligned to provide six parking bays where vehicles can be charged over several hours, along with three 50kW rapid chargers, each with its own parking bay where users can charge a vehicle more quickly. The chargers are supplied by BP Pulse.
The hub also hosts five electric Nissan Leafs operated by Enterprise Car Club, and from early next year will host a wireless charging facility.
John Miles, managing director of eFIS, leader of the consortium which is delivering the hubs for Milton Keynes Council, said: “We are delighted to play a part in the creation of these new community charging hubs which complement the existing electric vehicle charge posts in Milton Keynes and extend the opportunity to embrace electric mobility to a wider group of residents.”
Enterprise Car Club managing director Dan Gursel said: “We are delighted to be part of the first Milton Keynes Community Charging Hub.
“The hub means users can rest assured that they can recharge vehicles quickly when they need to and be confident driving an electric vehicle.”
