Company car drivers are facing up to painful back problems, according to new research. Loughborough University found that long working hours, excessive mileage and manual handling of equipment were seen by 55% of drivers as contributing to lower back pain, linked by 41% of respondents to shoulder discomfort and by 35% to neck problems.

The sample survey of more than 200 drivers covered an average 22,000 miles per year and driving for more than 20 hours per week.
