TR Fleet has introduced a BTEC qualification in safe driving to its existing risk management programme. The fleet consultancy firm has added the level 2 award to its Drivesecure scheme and is offering its customers the opportunity to enrol their drivers with the intention of cutting accident rates and lowering insurance premiums, with savings tipped to be up to a quarter for participating companies.
The BTEC will be taught by driving instructors and will include practical and theoretical assessments around reducing accidents, changing attitudes and bettering driving standards.
TR Fleet’s commercial director, Jo Ewan, said: “A poor accident record is the biggest factor affecting insurance costs for fleets.
“The BTEC in safe driving has been welcomed by insurance companies due to the significant reduction in claims from drivers completing the course. This impact has resulted in reduced premiums with participating businesses reporting reductions of up to 25%.
“Responsible companies are continually looking to reduce risk in the workplace and safeguard the wellbeing of their employees. [The] BTEC provides them with a proven tool to reduce the risks associated with company driving, whilst also tackling rising premiums.”
