BMW is set to increase the efficiency of its i4 EV with a technical change.

From July this year, the i4 eDrive35 and eDrive40 will come with silicon carbide semiconductor components, which are said to reduce power consumption by around 4.5%.

Depending on spec, BMW says this will mean a range increase of up to 14 miles, to 266 miles and 317 miles respectively.

In addition, BMW says that July will also see the debut of a new, range-topping M60 xDrive variant for the i4 line-up. Compared with the previous M50, this will offer an extra 57hp, making 601hp in total, allowing acceleration from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds, with a 269-mile range.
