Smart has confirmed that electric versions of its fortwo and forfour city cars ? due to arrive in the UK next month ? will cost from £16,420 and £16,915 respectively.
These prices include the government’s £4,500 Plug-In Car Grant.
A convertible version of the electric Fortwo, meanwhile, is priced from £18,650 including the government subsidy.
The vehicles are powered by an 81hp electric motor with a range of up to 100 miles and a maximum speed of 80mph to conserve battery life.
Smart claims the battery can be changed in two and a half hours using a wall-mounting charging box or six hours using a standard three-pin plug.
Equipment levels are based on the Prime model, which includes heated front seats, cruise control, leather upholstery, rear parking sensors and an infotainment system with sat-nav built in.
Owners will also be able to access the Smart control app, which allows them to view battery life and pre-set the climate control.
