Skoda has unveiled its next-generation Superb ahead of its debut at next month’s Geneva motor show. It goes on sale in UK in September.

The new model will rival models like the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia in the fleet market and the new Superb marks a further push towards premium.

It will be powered by three diesel engines and five petrol units from launch. Skoda claims the new Superb’s engines are 30% more efficient than the ones powering the predecessor. No efficiency figures have been released yet, but expect the 1.6-litre 120hp diesel to be the most frugal.

The Czech car maker claimed the Superb has twice as much room for passengers than its nearest competitor. It also claimed the 625-litre boot capacity is the best in the segment and offers 30-litres more than the previous-generation Superb.

Technology-wise, the Superb is equipped with the firm’s Park Assist feature, which automatically assists the car in and out of parking spaces. It also features a rear-view camera for the first time. Skoda has also replaced the traditional handbrake with an electric parking brake.

The Superb can also be connected to a smartphone for the first time. Skoda said selected apps can be operated from the infotainment system’s screen, while the company’s SmartGate interface allows certain vehicle data to be accessed on a smartphone. The top model is also optionally available with a high-speed internet connection.

“The new Skoda Superb demonstrates our aspirations in the automotive mid-class. In terms of creativity and technology, it reaches a new level of performance, shows Skoda’s reclaimed position and leads the way into the future of the brand. This fantastic car will attract new private and business customers to Skoda,” said Skoda CEO Winfried Vahland.
