North Ayrshire Council has announced its fleet expenditure has reduced by a sixth as a result of implementing an updated version of its existing fleet software system.
The organisation had been using an archaic version of Chevin’s Roadbase platform since the early 1990s and opted to upgrade to a modern form of the system in 2010, which it tailored to better handle its fleet.
Fleet manager at North Ayrshire Council, Gordon Mitchell, said: “I’m convinced that tailoring the software to our specific needs and improving uptake through training played a pivotal role in this reduction, and that by implementing [the system] we will be able to further reduce our department’s expenditure.”
Chevin’s managing director, Ashley Sowerby, said: “Operating a public sector fleet against current economic conditions is a major challenge.
“This is why complacency when it comes to processes and operations is no longer an option – local authorities simply can’t afford to sit back and allow fleet costs to spiral out of control due to outdated or inappropriate methods.”
