Two Ford EVs have been named as the first models eligible for the UK Government’s full £3,750 Electric Car Grant.
The Ford Puma Gen-E and Ford E-Tourneo Courier have met the government’s sustainability criteria for the ‘Band 1’ grant.
Ford UK chair and managing director Lisa Brankin said: “We welcome the government’s decision to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and are proud that Ford’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised with the full EV grant.”
Four other new models have been announced as eligible for the £1,500 ‘Band 2’ grant – the Peugeot E-308 and E-408, and the DS 3 and DS No4.
Peugeot UK managing director Nicola Dobson said: “With six of our all-electric models now confirmed for the Electric Car Grant, Peugeot is proud to give customers more opportunities to benefit from lower upfront costs and greater choice.”
Reacting to the latest eligibility announcement, AA president Edmund King said: “Drivers frequently tell us that the upfront costs of new EVs are a stumbling block to making the switch to electric.
“It is great to see some of these more substantial £3,750 discounts coming online because for some drivers, this might just bridge the financial gap to make these cars affordable.”
RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “It’s great to see details of the first two models qualifying for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant. This represents a significant saving for drivers which we hope further stimulates demand and encourages other manufacturers to follow suit.
“We’ve long called for the government to reintroduce an EV grant aimed at the more affordable end of the market, so it’s very positive to see this happening in support of the switch to electric motoring.”
