Toyota will reveal this new Land Cruiser at the Frankfurt motor show this week.

Going on sale in the UK on 1 December this year, the five- or seven-seat large off-roader will be available with a 173PS 3.0-litre diesel coupled to a five-speed automatic gearbox.

In other markets around the world the car will also be offered with a 4.0-litre petrol engine and also in three-door short-wheelbase layout.

Toyota claims the new model is better off-road thanks to more advanced 4×4 technology and is also more refined on-road – the previous car’s weakness over its competitors such as the Land Rover Discovery.

Efficiency has also been improved, with what Toyota claims is a best-in-class fuel figure of 34.9mpg and a CO2 output of 214g/km.
