Toyota has taken the wraps off a plug-in version of the Prius hybrid, ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt motor show next week.
The plug-in version of the Toyota Prius gives the hybrid a further boost in efficiency with a drop in CO2 output to less than 60g/km according to the car maker. The new Prius should also be capable of more than 100mpg.
In all-electric mode the plug-in Prius is capable of up to 62mph and has a range of 12.5 miles before the petrol engine kicks in to provide supplement power. The car can be recharged within 1.5 hours.
Next year Toyota will launch a test programme that will see more than 500 cars leased to customers worldwide for real-world evaluation of performance and monitoring of driver attitudes and experiences.
