Fuel card company Fuelmate has launched a pre-pay card aimed at businesses with a limited credit history, accepted at Keyfuels’ network of 1600 filling stations.
Known as Fuelmate Flexi-pay, new companies without credit history, or existing firms with poor history, will be able to access the normal benefits of fuelcard ownership, including fixed weekly diesel prices.
The card will also allow companies to load a set number of litres onto an account and top up by phone or direct debit when the credit is running low. The card can also be made driver or vehicle-specific, allowing fleets to control usage.
According to Fuelmate, customers are notified by text or email when the account balance drops to 25%, 15% and 5% of an estimated weekly volume.
“It means they can get access to all the benefits of a fuel card and is available to any company that spends more than £500 per month on diesel, regardless of their credit history,” said Andy Smith, managing director of Fuelmate.
Smith added that once companies had used the card for a year they could become eligible for a more traditional fuel card: “Once companies have established a reputable trading history with us, they are far more likely to pass a credit check and then they can decided to change to a different product if they wish.”
