Honda has revealed images of its new, small, hybrid-powered vehicle that will sit between the Jazz and the Civic in size.
The new car will revive the Insight name that was used on Honda’s first hybrid vehicle produced in 1999.
Prices have not yet been announced, but Honda claims the car will be significantly cheaper than any other hybrid on the market.
Despite being smaller than the current Civic Hybrid, the Insight will be a five-door hatchback capable of carrying five people.
By making the car the cheapest on the market, Honda is aiming to attract buyers who haven’t previously considered a hybrid.
However, the company will be going one step further in terms sizes when it releases the hybrid version of the even smaller Jazz supermini around 2011.
The Insight is based on an entirely new platform, and takes its styling inspiration from the hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity that has recently been delivered to the first customers in America.
The original Insight sold only 400 units in Europe and 17,000 worldwide, but Honda predicts to sell 200,000 of the new vehicle every year.
The Insight will make its public debut at the Paris motor show in October and is expected to go on sale in spring 2009.
