Kia has announced an expanded line-up for its e-Niro electric car, including cheaper entry points for buyers.
Previously the model was only available with a 64kWh battery pack, allowing a driving range of more than 282 miles.
Now, however, a smaller 39kWh battery pack has been made available in the UK for the first time. This allows a driving range of up to 180 miles, and comes paired with 134hp motor, whereas the 64kWh option comes with a 201hp motor.
Both battery packs take 54 minutes for an 80% charge with a 100kW charger, while the same charge with a 50kW charger takes 57 minutes for the 39kWh pack, and 75 minutes for the 64kWh pack.
The 39kWh pack comes only with the new entry-level 2 equipment grade, which has been added to the range alongside 3 and 4+ options – the new three-tier line-up having replaced the previous single 4 grade.
Standard equipment with 2 includes 17in alloy wheels, a 7in full TFT colour driver’s display, an 8in touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist.
Stepping up to 3 grade adds kit including 10.25in touchscreen sat-nav, full leather upholstery, heated seats and steering wheel, and a wireless phone charger.
The main additional feature with the 4+ grade is a three-phase 11kW AC charger, but the range-topping model also gets features such as a sunroof, LED headlights with bi-function projection, a 320-watt JBL premium sound system, and front parking sensors.
The updated e-Niro range is on sale now. Prices, including the government’s plug-in car grant, start at £29,595 for the 2, with its 39kWh battery pack, and rise to £33,850 for the 3 and £36,145 for the 4+, both of which come with the 64kWh pack.
