Kia has revealed details of its new Ceed small family car.
The new model – featuring a minor rebranding from the previous name cee’d – has been revealed as a five-door hatchback, but Kia says a second bodystyle will follow when the car makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
In a first for Kia, the new Ceed will be available with semi-autonomous lane following assist technology, which tracks vehicles in front of the car in traffic, and identifies spaces in adjacent lanes to move into to gain ground in heavy congestion.
It also detects road markings to keep the Ceed in its lane on the motorway, and controls acceleration, braking and steering depending on vehicles in front.
The new Ceed is 23mm lower and 20mm wider than the outgoing model, and has a larger boot, at 395 litres, along with more front occupant headroom and rear occupant shoulder room.
Engine options are a 1.0-litre petrol with 118hp, a 1.4-litre petrol with 99hp, another 1.4-litre petrol with 138hp, and a 1.6-litre diesel with either 113hp or 134hp.
Fuel economy figures are not yet available, but Kia predicts the diesel’s CO2 emissions to fall below 110g/km.
A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, while the 138hp petrol and the diesel will also be available with a seven-speed double-clutch automatic.
The interior will feature either a 5in or 7in touchscreen audio system, or an 8in touchscreen sat-nav.
Full Bluetooth smartphone integration will be standard, along with automatic lights and keyless entry.
Standard safety technologies will include high beam assist, driver attention warning, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning with forward collision-avoidance assist.
Also available are smart cruise control with stop and go, blind spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision warning, smart parking assist and pedestrian detection.
Sales of the new Ceed will begin in mainland Europe in the second quarter of 2018.
An on-sale date and pricing for the UK is yet to be announced.
