Land Rover is set to introduce its most efficient Range Rover Sport yet thanks to the debut of its 240hp 2.0-litre diesel Ingenium engine, due to go on sale in the winter priced from £59,700.
Already fitted to the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models, the Range Rover Sport’s unit will return 45.6mpg and emit 164g/km of CO2, placing it in the 32% 2016/17 BIK band.
As well as the new engine, Land Rover is introducing a number of semi-autonomous features to the Range Rover Sport including an advanced tow assist function, an autonomous emergency braking tool and a driver condition monitor, the latter of which analyses steering inputs to warn the driver if signs of fatigue are detected.
Land Rover claims the advanced tow assist feature is a first-in-class deployment. It uses the car’s camera system and touchscreen to allow the driver to indicate the required direction of the trailer, and the vehicle will autonomously drive itself.
“Our customers love the Range Rover Sport and for the 2017 model year it gets even better. It’s brimming with exciting technology for even better on and off-road driving; it has next-generation advanced safety features as standard, better economy and running costs, and all for under £60,000,” said Jeremy Hicks, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover UK.
