Jaguar has released more details about its flagship XJ saloon, which will attempt to challenge the dominance of the German brands in the luxury market.
Technical information revealed by the carmaker includes details of a new adaptive dynamics system that monitors road-induced body motion 100 times a second and controls vertical body movement, body roll and pitch. Jaguar claims the result will be a supremely comfortable and relaxed ride quality – essential if it is to make any headway in the limousine and chief executive markets.
Environmental credentials include a body built from 50% recycled aluminium that is also 85% recyclable at the end of its life, plus CO2 emissions for the 3.0-litre diesel version of 184g/km with the standard wheelbase and 189g/km for the LWB version. Prices for the new XJ start at £53,775 for the 3.0 Diesel Luxury, rising to £67,185 for the highest-specified diesel, the Portfolio LWB. In comparison, the Mercedes S350 CDI is priced from £57,103, the BMW 7 Series is £55,260 and the new Audi A8 coming later this year sells from £54,760.
The new XJ goes on sale in April.
