Mazda UK fleet boss James Hopkins has been tasked with setting up a pan-European business car operation for the Japanese brand as it looks to compete for contracts for around 50 large fleets.
The firm feels it’s missing out on contracts with big global companies and is using its UK operation’s expertise as the most-developed fleet market in Europe on which to base its new programme.
“At a procurement level, big companies want to talk to Europe as one entity and if we can’t scoop up that business then we miss out,” Hopkins told BusinessCar. “I’m currently setting up a European fleet and remarketing team predominantly aimed at the big seven markets – UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium and Holland.”
Hopkins is currently working in Germany two days a week, combining the new team with his UK fleet boss role.
