Mercedes has released a teaser image of the cabin of its forthcoming C-class.
The new upper medium model, which is expected to go on sale in mid-2014, features a completely redesigned interior, which includes a touchpad that manages a selection of the controls, itself mounted on the centre console, and operates using “finger gestures” in a similar manner to a smartphone.
Other equipment will include a head-up display and an advanced air-conditioning system pinched from the range-topping S-class luxury car.
Away from the interior, Mercedes has shaved 100kg off the total weight compared to the outgoing C-class, which it claims will “significantly reduce fuel consumption” and “set a new standard in the segment”. A series of updates to the safety systems and the suspension will also appear on the new model.
