Volkswagen has announced new equipment grade options for plug-in hybrid versions of its Passat upper-medium car.

The new Match and Black Edition equipment grades replace the previous Life and R-Line grades with the eHybrid powertrains.

Match models will come with as a 204hp eHybrid, while Black Edition cars will be available with either 204hp or 272hp.

Compared with the outgoing Life grade, the Match grade features extra equipment including metallic paint, IQ.Light LED matrix headlights, tinted rear window glass, and an Assistance Pack including area view and emergency assist.

Extra equipment with the Black Edition grade over the R-Line grade includes metallic paint, 19in Leeds alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rear window privacy glass, a Winter Package including heated front and rear seats, a head-up display, a 15in infotainment screen, and the Assistance Pack.

The Match eHybrid is priced at £44,555, and the Black Edition eHybrid is priced at £48,900 with the 204hp powertrain, and £51,420 with the 272hp powertrain. Volkswagen says the new grades feature extra equipment worth £3,890 and £4,905 respectively compared with their outgoing equivalents

Orders for the Match and Black Edition eHybrids open on 14 August.

The Life and R-Line grades remain available with petrol engines.
