Toyota has announced a new hybrid version of its Aygo X crossover city car.

The new powertrain, previously seen with Toyota’s larger Yaris and Yaris Cross, pairs a petrol engine with an electric motor, with a total output of 116hp. Toyota is projecting a WLTP CO2 emissions figure of 86g/km.

The new powertrain will replace the previous pure petrol engine in the Aygo X line-up.

As well as the new powertrain, Toyota has also announced design changes, including a new bonnet, headlights and grille.

Inside, there’s a new 7in driver display and heater control panel, along with an electronic parking brake and two USB-C charging ports.

Toyota says driving refinement is also improved thanks to new noise-damping components, including dash silencers, bonnet insulation and an engine underbody cover, combined with an updated exhaust system and silencer.

An upgraded ADAS package includes an enhanced pre-collision system, lane trace assist and road sign assist, as well as a new emergency driving stop system and proactive driving assist.

The Aygo X will also be available with the GR Sport equipment grade for the first time.

The Aygo X Hybrid is due to go on sale in the UK at the end of 2025. Full specs and prices are yet to be announced.
