Volkswagen has revealed an updated version of its e-Golf electric vehicle at the Los Angeles motor show.
The heavily revised model promises 50% more range than the current version – up to 186 miles per charge, according the official tests – while VW claimed it can cover 124 miles in real-world driving conditions.
Volkswagen has upped the battery’s energy capacity from 24.2kWh to 35.8kWh, which enables the motor to develop 134hp, 20hp more than the first model could produce.
Based on drivers using a fast-charger, the car can be recharged up to 80% within an hour, while it will take less than six hours to recharge it fully using a 7.2kW home-charger.
As well as the under-the-skin updates mentioned above, the 2017 VW e-Golf also receives aesthetic tweaks in line within the recently revealed 2017 VW Golf. These include new front and rear bumpers and LED daytime running lights.
Inside, the e-Golf will also gain VW’s 12.3-inch Active Info Display screen that replaces a normal instrument cluster, along with a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which features gesture control as standard.
New driver-assistance features include the likes of an emergency braking function, an emergency stop tool that powers off the vehicle if it senses the driver has been taken ill.
According to VW, if the car senses the driver is not in control, the vehicle will put on its hazard warning lights and gently weave before coming to a stop. The system is already in place on its Tiguan and Passat models, and a spokesman told BusinessCar the technology is filtering through the range.
Other safety kid offered include a traffic jam assist aid, which can semi-autonomously drive the car at speeds of up to 37mph in traffic.
