Nissan has announced it will start testing an autonomous Leaf EV from next month in London.
The Japanese company said the trials will be the first demonstrations of the company’s self-driving technology on public roads in Europe, and follows on from a recent announcement that future iterations of the Leaf and Qasqhai will be equipped with technology to enable single-lane autonomous driving on motorways.
Nissan said the first passengers to trial the Leaf’s self-driving technology will include Government officials and safety experts.
“Innovation and ingenuity is at the heart of the Nissan brand and its people. With future models secured and cutting-edge innovation being developed right here in the UK, we’re looking forward to a strong future of designing, engineering and manufacturing in the country for customers right across the world,” said Nissan Europe chairman, Paul Wilcox.
“We want to see centres continue to develop, making us a world leader in the development and testing of auto technology so we can anchor the next generation of vehicle manufacturing and its supply chain here in the UK,” said business and energy secretary, Greg Clark.
