An updated version of Volkswagen’s Passat upper-medium car is now available to order.
Among the new features – across both saloon and estate bodystyles – are the semi-autonomous Travel Assist system, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane assist.
This is standard throughout the range, as are LED lights and wireless smartphone connectivity.
Three diesel engines are available at launch – a 120hp 1.6-litre, a 190hp 2.0-litre and a 240hp 2.0-litre – along with two 2.0-litre petrols producing 190hp and 272hp.
All come with seven-speed automatic transmission as standard, while four-wheel drive is optional with the 190hp engine and standard with the 240hp and 272hp engines.
The most efficient launch diesel engine is the 120hp unit, with official WLTP fuel economy of 47.1mpg-49.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 109g/km. While the greenest petrol, the 190hp engine, offers respective figures of 36.2mpg-37.2mpg and 143g/km (figures apply to the saloon).
Also joining the range later this year will be a 1.5-litre petrol and a 150hp diesel, both featuring active cylinder shutdown to help save fuel, and a GTE plug-in hybrid, which VW says will offer a pure electric range of up to 34 miles.
All the engines also feature particulate filters.
Launch equipment grades are SE, SEL and R-Line, with an extra R-Line Edition launch variant available as an estate only, limited to 150 UK examples.
Standard equipment with SE includes a 6.5in touchscreen, DAB and Bluetooth. Stepping up to SEL brings an 8in screen, voice control, leather seats and, on estate versions, tinted rear windows and silver roof rails.
R-Line comes with equipment including 18in alloy wheels, sports suspension, R-Line exterior and interior styling features, three-zone climate control and keyless entry.
R-Line Edition features 19in alloys, dynamic chassis control, LED matrix headlights and a 9.2in touchscreen.
Range prices start at £27,630 for an SE 120hp diesel saloon, and rise as high as £45,050 for an R-Line Edition 240hp diesel estate.
The first deliveries are expected in late August.
