Over 80% of UK motorists would support the implementation of technology designed to immobilise vehicles if sensors detect the driver is over the legal blood alcohol content limit, to lower their insurance costs.
That’s according to National Windscreens which claimed 66% of motorists said they would specify additional technologies when buying a new vehicle to benefit from discounted insurance premiums.
Just under 40% of those surveyed said they would support devices fitted to vehicles that made it impossible to exceed the speed limit.
“These results clearly demonstrate the high level of support for innovation designed to minimise drink driving. There is a clear opportunity for insurers to capitalise on this support with premiums that differentiate between vehicles with and without this safety feature,” said Pete Marsden, National Windscreen commercial director.
