Telematics firm Quartix has added Google Maps to the InfoPlus and Corporate versions of its pay-as-you-go software.
Google’s mapping, satellite, terrain and hybrid views are available, giving fleets access to maps and satellite images from locations named in journey reports. Google Maps’s zoom and scroll control also allows operators to trace journey details and find the nearest vehicle to a location.
The firm also said that half of its new customers are opting for the pay-as-you-go system launched three months ago. “Pay-as-you-go is attracting enormous amounts of interest and without doubt customers see it as the way forward,” said Qaurtix boss Andy Walters.
The launch of the pay-as-you-go system helped Quartix to a £1.04m operating profit for the first half of 2009, compared with £970,000 for the same period of 2008.
Walters claimed some of the firm’s rivals are in less good financial health. “There have been widespread redundancies in the industry, with some competitors laying off more than 50% of their staff,” he said. “We don’t believe this is sustainable and we expect to see more failures.”
