Vauxhall has reduced prices for plug-in hybrid versions of its Astra lower-medium car.

Prices for plug-in hybrid Astra hatchbacks are now £36,145 with the GS equipment grade, £38,145 with Ultimate, and £38,795 for the GSE performance variant, while Sports Tourer estate prices are £37,365, £39,345, and £39,995 respectively. Vauxhall says these prices represent savings of up to £4,955 compared with the previous line-up.

As previously announced, the models have been updated with a larger 17.2kWh battery, with power also increased from 180hp to 195hp for the regular plug-in hybrid – the GSE remains at 225hp.

The changes mean EV-only ranges of between 52 and 49 miles depending on spec – and, for a hatchback with the GS grade, an official CO2 emissions figure of 49g/km, meaning it incurs 9% company car BIK tax. The other versions are taxed at 16%.
