A series of small cars have been revealed in advance of next week’s Geneva motor show. The Peugeot 108 city car [1] (successor to the current 107), new Citroen C1 [2] and new Toyota Aygo, all of which share the same platform, have been unveiled.
Peugeot has confirmed an 88g/km version, powered by a 68hp 1.0-litre petrol engine, but there will also be an 82hp 1.2-litre petrol engine with 99g/km.
Alongside the standard 108, there will also be a car called the 108 Top featuring a full-length retractable fabric sunroof.
Neither Citroen nor Toyota had confirmed engines or figures for their cars as BusinessCar went to press, but it is expected that they will follow at least similar form to the 108.
Renault has revealed a new version of its Twingo city car [3], which it claims will have exceptional interior space and a rear-mounted engine powering the rear wheels.
Figures have yet to be revealed but the Twingo will share its underpinnings with the next Smart Forfour, and a smaller version of the platform will be used for the next Smart Fortwo.
Vauxhall and Fiat have shown images of pumped-up off-road versions of their city cars. Vauxhall describes the Adam Rocks [4] as a “mini crossover”, which will be powered by the firm’s new 90hp or 115hp 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine, among other options. It sits 15mm higher than the standard car and has an electric folding canvas roof.
Fiat’s new Panda Cross [5] is based on the Panda 4×4 and offers a series of advanced electronic driving aids to help it better cope with off-roading.
It will be available with a 90hp 0.9-litre two-cylinder Twinair engine with 57.6mpg and 114g/km or an 80hp 1.3-litre Multijet diesel unit with 60.1mpg and 125g/km.
