Several car makers have been appointed as suppliers to the public sector, police and emergency services under the new Crown Commercial Services vehicle supply framework agreement.

The new three-year agreement, which began in December, supersedes two agreements, which treated the public sector, police and emergency services separately.

The agreement provides access to a range of vehicles including cars, 4x4s, commercial vehicles, buses, coaches and motorcycles, which can be used by Government departments and public sector organisations.

Previously frameworks only included individual models, whereas whole brands have been appointed in the new scheme.

Government departments are required to buy vehicles through the agreement, but other public sector organisations can choose whether to use the agreement or form different arrangements.

Those taking part in the scheme will have access (via a fleet portal) to a “wealth of technical and pricing information to support decisions to directly award contracts,” the Cabinet Office said.

The Cabinet Office said discounts are available via vehicle leasing and vehicle conversion suppliers if the vehicles are being sourced on behalf of a customer.

Two of the manufactures involved in the scheme commented on their involvement. Volkswagen said its first deliveries occurred just before Christmas, while Hyundai said it has supplied over 2200 cars to blue light customers since 2010.

“The new CCS agreement provides us with much broader scope for supply and allows us to showcase vehicles within our range for a variety of different roles – from public sector pool cars through police ‘beat cars’ and ambulances to motorway traffic vehicles,” said Steve Cowell, technical sales manager, Volkswagen Group.

“The emergency services are discerning and demanding customers, and rightly so, when lives may depend on vehicle reliability and flexibility. With these high-profile customers using our vehicles, it acts as a powerful recommendation to potential buyers,” said Martin Wilson, fleet director, Hyundai UK.
