The Best App is a new category which recognises the growing business in mobile-based applications designed to make life easier for the business car community.
The inaugural award goes to Volvo for its mobile app which allows owners of new MY12 Volvos fitted with On Call to manage the vehicle from their smartphone. Detailed data of journeys made over the last 40 days can be downloaded as an Excel file, with information including start/end time and location, distance covered and average mpg, while trips can be grouped according to type, for example business or private mileage, allowing drivers to work out travel expenses easily. Information can also be sent to an email address.
In terms of security, the car can be locked and unlocked remotely via the phone and there are automatic phone alerts if the car alarm is triggered.
The app is an extension of Volvo On Call, a service that gives the driver direct access to a call centre in the event of an emergency.
Mobile Lex Autolease interactive has been Highly Commended. Mirroring its desktop online system and free to customers, it allows drivers to book a service, MOT or repair, request tyres and glass, report an accident as it happens and be directed to the nearest Kwik-Fit. Drivers can also request a quote to buy their vehicle at the end of its contract.
