Tesla has announced that its warranty for the 85kw Model S’s electric motor has been increased from four years / 50,000 mile to match that of the battery pack’s eight year warranty.
The extended warranty will apply retroactively to all 85kw Model Ss, and there is no limit on the number of owners during the warranty period. The body / car warranty remains at four years / 50,000 miles.
“If we truly believe that electric motors are fundamentally more reliable than gasoline engines, with far fewer moving parts and no oily residue or combustion byproducts to gum up the works, then our warranty policy should reflect that,” said Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors.
This news follows from the American electric car maker opening a second UK supercharger, allowing owners to charge their cars for free, with more planned for the future.
