Toyota and Lexus vehicles now account for more than 75% of all hybrids on UK roads.
Almost 100,000 hybrids have been sold in the UK between 2007 and the end of the first quarter of 2012, over 77,000 of which have come from the Japanese brands.
Toyota also said that the market share of hybrid cars has risen from 0.7% to 1.3% in 2012. This comes as the company reports a five-fold leap in international profits following a tough 2011 when it was recovering from supply shortages due to natural disasters in the Far East.
