Vehicle telematics giant Tracker and satnav specialist Garmin have pooled resources to launch their first, joint fleet management tool.
Called Tracker Vision, it combines a Garmin Nuvi vehicle navigation unit with Tracker’s Fleet system, to combine vehicle tracking, job allocation, navigation, reporting and driver communication, accessed through a customisable website.
“This [system] includes two-way messaging, task management information direct to the driver’s screen, job scheduling and estimated time of arrival to the fleet manager,” said Clive Taylor, Garmin’s fleet management and commercial businesses director.
This comes as Tracker announces its sale by insurance giant Direct Line Group to new parent company and telematics specialist Lysanda.
The firm said it planned to increase its stolen vehicle recovery business, among other projects, in the wake of the acquisition.
Stephen Doran, managing director of Tracker, said: “[The move] allows us to become an independent service to the insurance market. It also provides the investment capital we need to take our business forward.”
