Trafficmaster is updating its mapping system to take into account planned road closures during the Olympics as well as updating traffic congestion as it happens for its Smartnav users.
Pat Gallagher, director – in-vehicle products, said: “During the Olympics Smartnav comes even more into its own as our system will automatically avoid routing users down roads that will be closed by the time the vehicle gets there.
“And we update our routes immediately congestion occurs, so if delays build up on a vehicle’s planned route, Smartnav will automatically calculate all the other alternative routes and offer the driver the quickest way to the destination.”
The firm said the move would provide “Smartnav users with a unique ability to avoid the impending havoc and congestion that will be caused by the temporary road closures during the Olympic Games”.
Meanwhile, Trafficmaster has updated its Fleet Director product that lets fleet managers check drivers’ whereabouts and progress in real-time. The new version allows drivers direct access to the emergency services in case of a major accident. The system can also be used to call breakdown assistance.
