Vauxhall has announced upgrades for plug-in hybrid versions of its Astra lower-medium car.

Changes include the fitting of a larger, 17.2kWh battery, which allows an EV-only range of up to 52 miles, or up to 50 miles with the GSE performance variant. With the entry-level GS hatchback, a 49g/km CO2 emission figure means a company car tax BIK liability of 9% – other versions remain at 16%.

The non-GSE plug-in hybrid has also received a power increase, to 195hp, while both versions come as standard with a new electrified seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The upgraded plug-in hybrids are available as hatchbacks or Sports Tourer estates. They are available to order now, with unchanged prices, starting at £39,715. The first deliveries are due in November.
