Vauxhall has revealed it is adding its 2.0-litre diesel engine to the Insignia range as part of the model’s 2015 model year facelift.
The ‘whisper diesel’ unit will replace the current 163hp Ecoflex engine.
The new Euro 6 compatible engine produces 170hp, emits 118g/km CO2 and returns 62.8mpg on the combined cycle. This is compared to the outgoing model’s 143g/km and 52.3mpg.
Vauxhall said the new model will increase in price by £640 over the outgoing model, meaning the Start/Stop EcoFlex model in Design trim will cost from £21,634.
The unit is already in the Astra, Meriva, Zafira Tourer and Mokka models, and the British car maker claims that it has achieved best-in-class values for noise generation, vibration and running refinement in the latter model.
It is part of Vauxhall’s new family of all-aluminium diesel engines which are Euro 6 compliant.
The range has also been slimmed down. Saloon models will no longer feature in any sales material, and will only be available to order by special build. They will carry the same list and on the road prices as the equivalent hatchback models.
Other changes to the Insignia range include the addition of two new petrol models – a 1.6-litre 170hp turbo model and a 2.0-litre 250hp turbo model.
The former engine achieves 45.8mpg on the combined cycle and emits 145g/km CO2, while the latter achieves 39.2mpg and emits 169g/km CO2.
Styling changes to the 2015 model includes a black grille instead of a chrome grille, which Vauxhall said gives the car a “more aggressive look than before.”
