Vauxhall has refused to confirm whether its new electric car will be sold in the UK.
Vauxhall’s European arm, Opel, released images and early details of the lower medium vehicle, known as the Ampera-e, but would not confirm whether it is coming to the UK.
BusinessCar understands the new five-door hatchback will have a range of around 200 miles, and that the model is very closely related to the Chevrolet Bolt, which is due to go on sale in America later this year.
Vauxhall said the new model “will be affordably priced” and follows on from the company’s first foray into ultra-low emission vehicles, the Ampera. However, a Vauxhall spokeswoman could not provide any information on the model’s price.
The Luton-based manufacturer also confirmed the new model would feature the firm’s OnStar personal assist service, and would “integrate smartphone and other electronic devices seamlessly into the vehicle.”
“GM [General Motors, Vauxhall’s parent company] and Opel [Vauxhall’s European badge] have always been convinced that electric cars will play a defining role in future mobility,” said GM chairman and CEO Mary Barra. “The game-changing technology of the Ampera-e is a significant step toward realising that vision.”
“Our new battery electric car is also another boost for Opel’s reputation for making innovative engineering widely accessible,” she added.
