Vauxhall has seen a four-fold increase in enquires for its LPG cars over the past six months.
The increase in interest across the Vauxhall website is thought to have been triggered by the high petrol and diesel prices, which have not been seen in LPG.
According to Arval, the national average price for LPG is currently 58 pence per litre – half that of petrol.
Vauxhall and sister firm Saab still offer the Astra, Combo and 9-3 with an LPG derivative. While parent firm GM has recently decreed its Australian Holden division as its centre of excellence for LPG technology.
“It’s no way dead and buried,” said GM special vehicles boss Dick Ellam. “We still get a lot of enquires about it both from fleets and in retail.
“Other European markets are going well too. Italy currently has a 2000 Euro incentive for LPG cars that’s just been extended from December to April.”
