Audi has once more expanded its range with the A3 Saloon. Priced at £550 more than the Sportback version, this small saloon offers an extra 45 litres of loadspace.
This is thanks to the longer rear overhang, and in this 1.4 TFSi petrol form emits just 109g/km of CO2 despite a fairly potent 140hp, thanks to Audi’s clever Cylinder on Demand technology.
Available across the A3 range, the CoD unit deactivates two of the four cylinders under lighter duress, cutting fuel use.
It puts company car benefit-in-kind payments well below that of the comparative 150hp diesel alternative that’s just a couple of grammes more efficient but £1500 more expensive. The only rival saloon is Mercedes’ four-door coupe CLA, which can’t match the Audi’s efficiency and therefore its cost per mile.
It is, though, worth considering that despite the Sportback’s smaller boot, it could still turn out to be more practical depending on how the car will be employed.
