The new TT arrived in drop-top Roadster guise in time for summer, and as well as the 184hp diesel engine there’s this 2.0-litre petrol, offering an extra 46hp for just £95 over the diesel, although there is a 26g/km emissions difference. The petrol model emits from 140g/km depending on the wheels.
Excellent
King of the premium roadsters, the TT offers looks that put Mercedes and BMW rivals in the shade, while P11D pricing isn’t too prohibitive.
Good
Residual values of a shade under 40% are helpful for the very competitive running costs, and the 230hp petrol engine makes for predictably potent performance. And while the emissions aren’t great for fleet drivers, they’re good for a 230hp sports car.
Average
The new so-called virtual cockpit design takes some getting used to, and the jury is out on whether it’s a positive step or not. Refinement is also well-controlled, but the fabric roof is still noisier than a hard-top.
Poor
There’s very little to complain about with the TT, although practicality obviously isn’t its strongest suit. But at least the fabric roof stows above the boot so doesn’t eat into trunk space when folded.
