What’s new: Having sampled the new XJ earlier this year, the brand has now let us loose in the long-wheelbase version of its radically styled luxury saloon, where an extra £3000 buys another 125mm of rear space.
Excellent: The XJ?is a stunning machine, creating more of a stir in the BusinessCar car park than anything for quite some time. The interior, while not quite as dramatic as the XF, is also classy.
Good: That extra 125mm of length is all in the rear seat area, leaving plenty of space for busy executives to work. Extra spec over the standard wheelbase includes dual rear climate control, rear privacy glass, lit rear vanity mirror and electric rear blinds.
Average: The extra weight of the extended car means emissions are 5g/km higher at 189g/km, up one BIK banding, while the steering is also too light.
Poor: Rear visibility isn’t good through the narrow and curved rear window, and the touch-screen infotainment system is slow-witted to respond. RVs of just 32.5% aren’t promising for a prestige brand.
Verdict: Massive ability to turn heads and decent rear space, but price tag and running costs are above rivals.
