Our Fleet Test Drive: Lexus CT200h – 11th report

The addition of a new member to the Rock flock has really put the Lexus’s people- and luggage-carrying capacity to the test.

Admittedly, the lower medium hatch hasn’t been designed to accommodate a family of Outnumbered-size proportions, so it would be unfair to criticise it for being a tight fit for two parents and three children. However, that does not mean that it’s unable to cope.

We’ve been able to fit in a baby’s car seat plus a high-back booster seat for the two younger ones, while the eldest, who’s aged seven, has had to use the adult seat and belt, which, as there are already two car seats in the rear, is a permitted exception in the eyes of the law.

The big test would be whether the boot could accommodate a full-size pram/pushchair.

I had my doubts, but was pleased to see that the pushchair easily slotted in, without the need for any extra shoving, while there was also room in the 375-litre-capacity space for a few extras such as a baby bag (bottles, nappies, wipes etc), handbag (not mine), raincoats (it was summer after all), and even, on one occasion, a picnic for a beach trip to the Kent coastline.
