Load a car with standard kit, bolt on a distinctive bodykit and chuck it at the market.
That’s basically the idea behind the Peugeot 407 Sport, which we’ve sampled in the SW estate bodystyle.
The new model looks great, with the new front bumper and rear spoiler making the 407 look significantly more impressive and aggressive, especially in the Onyx Black of our test car.
On the inside, the list of standard equipment will keep anyone happy, with satnav, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control and classy 17-inch alloys all part of the deal.
On the road there’s no change, which means a comfy cruiser rather than a vehicle with sporting ambitions, yet the 407 is good at what it does and offers plenty of boot space.
The only problem is Topcalc’s cost per mile figure of 38.8p that’s a couple of pence higher than a Ford Mondeo wagon in fully loaded Titanium X trim.
Verdict: Improved looks, stacks of kit and reasonable P11D make for a decent package
