What’s new: Renault has combined the sporty looks and suspension from its hot-hatch department with the 1.5 diesel from the eco department. This is only ever going to go one of two ways.
Excellent: Fortunately it went the good way – Renault has got the combination spot on. The Clio proves you can have a fun car to drive together with low tax (18% BIK) and fuel costs (61.4mpg).
Good: The knock-on effect of this combination is an RV of 34% and a cost per mile of 35.2p, according to KwikCarcost.
Average: While this is a fun car to drive, it’s not a quick one, with 0-62mph coming up in 11.1 seconds. The quality of the materials are also down on some rivals, once you look away from the dashboard.
Poor: There’s precious little wrong with this car, but there is one point that practicality conscious fleets may like to note – it’s only available as a three-door.
Verdict: A great business car, at a good price. Fun without an onerous financial penalty.
